In this Gentle Yoga class we move slowly – taking extra care of the low back, shoulders and neck. We mindfully explore movements that nourish us and release tension. While we use gentle strengthening movements to support a healthy spine, the main focus lies on relaxation. Recent research has shown that stress can lead to pain-causing inflammation in the connective tissue of the body. Breathing exercises (pranayama) and restorative poses throughout the class will help to calm the nervous system, relieve stress and reduce pain.
What if I have injuries?
This class has been developed based on my research on low back pain, and hence is suitable for most people with injuries such as herniated / bulged discs as well as those seeking relaxation and stress relief. Back Pain is very different for everybody. Some might have suffered from an injury like a hernia, others might have chronic unspecific pain in the low back or the neck and shoulders. Sitting for long periods, repetitive movement, stress, sports (like running and cycling), and many other factors can out strain on the lower and upper back. Research has shown that gentle movement & mindfulness can significantly reduce pain.
